Out of the Ashes of the "Monster"
(Rodeo-Chediski Fire of June 2002)

Pinecrest has
made a “Spirited Recovery”. Thanks to the
strength and tenacity of the residents determined
to rebuild, regardless of the devastating loss, the
community has emerged as a tribute of those who
lived through it and survived.
They have left a legacy founded on survival, rich with
history for past, present and future residents to be
proud of. We salute and thank them.

For the second time in 9 years the White
Mountains has fallen victim to another Monster
Wildfire. The Wallow Fire has taken over 500,000
acres of pristine forest and meadows, relocated
wildlife and forced evacuations of several rural
communities. It has surpassed the acreage
charred in the Rodeo-Chediski Fire of 2002 (the
largest in Arizona history until now). Homes and
other structures have been lost while people
stand by with raw emotion and watch the
devastation.
The residents of Pinecrest Lake RV Resort in
Overgaard know all to well those feelings. Our
hearts and prayers are with those Arizona
communities affected by the Wallow, Horeseshoe 2
and the Monument fires. If there is any comfort
in this message to our Arizona neighbors it’s
that your community will survive and be restored
with assistance, hard work, and determination.
May God bless and protect you all!
